A Canadian First!

The Heart and Stroke Foundation and Canadian Red Cross Society partnered to host a first-ever national conference focused solely on the life-saving science of first aid and resuscitation.

A power-packed conference was designed to focus and educate participants on the science and practice behind the newly-updated Canadian Guidelines for First Aid and Resuscitation.

The new guidelines, released in October 2015 are based on recommendations from both the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and are the result of scientific evidence reviewed by experts in their respective disciplines. The ILCOR recommendations are developed into guidelines for Canada by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the IFRC recommendations by the Canadian Red Cross.

The Canadian Red Cross and the Heart and Stroke Foundation are leading the implementation of the new guidelines into current practice, and providing policy-makers with context and rationale for updating how they manage this training within their own systems.

We promised you an engaging and enriching conference experience that advanced your knowledge and skills from Canadian and international experts while connecting you with colleagues from across the country and the feedback said we exceeded expectations.

We look forward to seeing you at the next conference to be hosted in 2018!

Conference Co-Chairs
Bill Ranson, Assistant Director Resuscitation Program Delivery and Activitation, Heart & Stroke Foundation
Don Marentette, Director National First Aid Programs, Canadian Red Cross
